Marcos Ambrose second fastest at "the island",

Stone Brothers Racing's Marcos Ambrose was second fastest in unofficial practice for round two of the V8 Supercar Championship Series at Phillip Island today.

Ambrose clocked a time of one minute and 51.41 seconds in his Pirtek Falcon in terribly wet and treacherous conditions which slightly improved though the 90-minute session.

"That was a pretty good session and the car is still nice and straight," said Ambrose.

"The first lap I thought "what the hell am I doing out here", by the second lap you start to settle in a bit.

"There is a special line around this place and it takes a while to settle in, especially in conditions like we had today.

"We actually ran a dry set-up, so do the time we did was pleasing.

"We managed to get plenty of data if it rains over the weekend."

Ambrose's SBR teammate Russell Ingall, experimented with a different set-up to Ambrose in his Caltex Havoline Falcon and finished the session 25th.

"We ran the session on pretty old tyres and we tried plenty of things," said Ingall.

"I obviously would have liked to have been faster, but the conditions were difficult. There is no sense sticking it into the wall in a practice session on Friday afternoon.

"The good thing is that the team has speed and we will dial it into my car overnight for tomorrow's practice and qualifying sessions."
