SBR work on race set-up for Winton "mini enduro"
Stone Brothers Racing elected to work on their race set-up for this weekend's unique 300km "mini enduro" at the tight and twisty Winton circuit during practice for round four of the V8 Supercar Championship Series today.
While not in the top 10, both Pirtek Falcon driver Marcos Ambrose (11th) and Caltex Havoline Ford driver Russell Ingall (15th) are not that far off the times of the day's pacesetters.
The pair will be back on track tomorrow with two practice sessions before the afternoon qualifying.
The day belonged to the "local" teams with the first six places being filled by drivers who regularly use Winton as their test track.
"The top 10 is a bit of a mixed bag when you look at it," said Ambrose.
"Some guys were on much better tyres than us and others have taken a step up.
"It would have been nice to be in the top 10, but there is no need to panic just yet."
Ingall, who is the leading Ford driver in the championship, was equally philosophical about today's results.
"I think this going to be an event which you need to be well prepared for," said Ingall.
"We worked on a lot of things during the session on some pretty old tyres.
"I might be in 15th, but I am less than a second off the quickest time and we were on pretty old rubber.
"I think 300km around here is going to be a terrific test."
