Ambrose and Besnard qualify 1-3 for final round.
Stone Brothers Racing's Marcos Ambrose and David Besnard again hoisted the Ford flag when they set the fastest and third fastest times respectively in qualifying for this weekend's Betta Electrical V8 Ultimate at the Sandown International Raceway in Melbourne.
Ambrose was fastest in the two morning practice sessions in his Pirtek Falcon and then stepped up in qualifying with a blistering lap of one minute and 10.9872 seconds.
Ambrose will put his position on the line in tomorrow's morning's top-15 shootout around the 3.1km Victorian venue.
"This is the first time we have been quickest in all three sessions on a Friday," said Ambrose.
"Hopefully we can do the job with the one-lap flyer in the shootout tomorrow.
"The nature of this track seems to suit the Falcon because it is basically a couple of drag strips joined by a couple of squiggly bits.
"I think there have been plenty of tracks this year where we have faced a disadvantage compared to the Holdens.
"It would be great to get through tomorrow unscathed and then finish off the year with a big result on Sunday."
Besnard was second fastest in the qualifying session, until championship leader Mark Skaife chipped in with a lap in the dying seconds to beat him by just 0.094 of a second.
"It has certainly been a strong start for SBR," said Besnard
"The car has improved each session, but it is not perfect.
"I guess if I was sitting in third and the car was perfect we would have something to worry about.
"Hopefully we will qualify in the top five or thereabouts, but the races are the important thing for us this weekend.
"I am ninth in the championship and can gain a couple of spots, but at the same time I can loose a heap.
"I just want to get the maximum result for Caltex Havoline, the team, all the Ford fans and myself."
There will be a top-15 shootout tomorrow followed by an opening 48-lap (150km) race tomorow afternoon.
There will be a 96-lap (300km) race on Sunday afternoon with a compulsory fuel and tyre stop.
