Friday, 11.30am: Holden Racing Team's latest recruit, Rick Kelly, passed his first test in the V8 Supercar ranks by making it through the pre-qualifying session to take his place on the 32 car grid for this weekend's final round of the 2001 Shell Championship Series.
Kelly was third fastest amongst the group of nine drivers vying for the final seven spots on the start grid in his first competitive drive in the #255 Holden Young Lions entry.
Tomas Mezera topped the timesheets in the rain affected session, followed by Dugal McDougall. Paul Romano, Rodney Forbes and Matthew White also made it through with John Faulkner scraping into the last spot.
Phonsy Mullan and Llayton Crambrook were the unlucky ones who will miss a start in the last blast for 2001. <pre> Pre Qualifying Results:
