McConville 7th fastest in Sandown Shootout.
November 30, 2002 - Lansvale Racing Team Holden Commodore V8 Supercar driver Cameron McConville has set the 7th fastest lap time of today's top fifteen shootout at Melbourne's Sandown Raceway.
This impressive result has promoted McConville from 11th to 7th for the start of today's first of two V8 Supercar races to decide the final round of the 2002 V8 Supercar Championship Series.
The 28 year old Victorian driver made the most of an overnight engine changefor today's high pressure one lap only effort, placing Sydney's V8 Supercar Team well within the top ten for Saturday's first race scheduled to start at 2:00pm.
This is McConville's second highest V8 Supercar qualifying shootout result of the season, following his 5th fastest lap at Sydney's Oran Park in July. The Lansvale Racing Team driver's lap time of 1:12.2909s around the 3.1 kilometre circuit was fractionally ahead of TWR Commodore driver Todd Kelly, and 3/100ths of a second ahead of Perkins Commodore driver Russell Ingall.
Cameron McConville - "I was actually disappointed with my lap. I had a bad brake lock heading into turn one and lost time getting onto the back straight due to wheelspin, but it was a slippery track today and we performed well. We have two very long races ahead so there's a long way to go, but it's starting on a positive note."
Falcon driver Marcus Ambrose has taken pole position ahead of Craig Lowndes and David Besnard. Series Champion Mark Skaife crashed during his flying lap and will start today's race from 15th.
