SEASON'S BEST FOR PERKINS AT SANDOWN

Dodo Racing Team driver Jack Perkins has recorded his best finish of the season with 13th place in the opening race of the Norton 360 Sandown Challenge in Melbourne today.

After qualifying in 16th place for the 33-lap race, Perkins matched a mature drive with some strong speed aboard the #11 Dodo Holden Commodore to battle with some of the most experienced drivers in the field on the 3.1km Sandown circuit.

The 22-year-old ran today's entire race on the softer Dunlop 'option' tyre, rotating the tyres at his compulsory fuel stop on lap 20.

Perkins and the Dodo Racing Team will now aim to back-up today's strong result with another good performance during qualifying tomorrow morning and the afternoon's 65-lap race.

Will Davison won today's race ahead of James Courtney and Craig Lowndes.

WHAT JACK HAD TO SAY ...

Jack Perkins - #11 Dodo Holden Commodore:

"The guys did a really good job on the Dodo car and the team has been performing great all weekend," said Perkins.

"I let the side down in qualifying, we had a top 10 car. It was good to start 16th and finish in the top 15. It was a good start to the weekend.

"I'm looking forward to doing a proper job in qualifying tomorrow to reward the Dodo team.

"The car is capable of a top 10 and we still have new tyres for qualifying. I'm also looking forward to the longer race, which suits me a bit better."
