The decision has been made to increase the tyre pressures for the final race of the weekend at Pukekohe Park Raceway after Craig Lowndes suffered a high-speed blowout while leading Race 2.
Lowndes cut a left-rear and made contact with the outside wall at the end of the front stretch, ending his day and dealing a serious blow to his title hopes.
Members of the V8 Supercars Commission met earlier today and agreed that minimum tyre pressures for the final 200km race of the weekend will be increased from 17 to 18psi. Teams are also required to start the race on softs.
"This is a fast circuit with high loadings and its bumps and kerbs are all contributing factors to tyre failure," said V8 Supercars Sporting and Technical Director David Stuart. "To minimise that risk and ensure fair racing for all teams we have decided to make these changes for today's race."
