Jamie Whincup has done it again. He continues to put the pressure on Mark Winterbottom, collecting yet another victory today. This marks his ninth win of the season and the 84th of his legendary career. Just 48 points seperate he and his bitter rival in the Ford.
The second race in Queensland was certainly a wild one. Scott McLaughlin held a comfortable lead early, but Michael Caruso quickly ate into that advantage. By the 17th lap of the 33 lap race, he was all over the rear bumper of the Volvo.
With the always dangerous Red Bull duo coming and Caruso hungry for his first win in five years, he made a bold move; a move that would completely shatter his hopes of Ipswich glory. The Norton Hornet got into race leader McLaughlin, spinning the Volvo around. Race Control immediately issued a drive-through penalty to Caruso, relegating him to a gutting 24th place finish. Scotty would fall through the running order to 19th after the contact.
Their collision opened the door for the Lowndes and Whincup to give Red Bull another 1-2 finish as 'Frosty' desperately tried to make up ground behind them. When the checkered flag flew, it was Whincup, Lowndes, and Mostert on the podium. They were followedby Van Gisbergen, (Rick) Kelly, Winterbottom, Percat, Tander, Coulthard, and Courtney.
The 25th race of the year and the final of three this weekend is set to take place tomorrow, with the starting lineup TBD.
