A RECORD, multi-million dollar field of the world's most desirable grand touring coupes will contest the Cleanevent Nations Cup at the Qantas Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne on 1-4 March.
A total of 36 cars, including an unprecedented nine Ferraris, has been entered for three races on the Albert Park Formula One circuit during the grand prix.
"The Cleanevent Nations Cup will showcase the greatest performance marques from around the world - Ferrari and Lamborghini from Italy, Lotus and Jaguar from Britain, Honda, Toyota and Nissan from Japan and Porsche from Germany," said Ross Palmer, Chief Executive of Nations Cup series organiser PROCAR Australia Pty Ltd.
"Australian spectators have never experienced an event like this before and it's totally appropriate they will be able to enjoy it in the prestigious international setting of the Qantas Australian Grand Prix weekend.
"I doubt if an Australian racing category has ever presented nine Ferraris and, with Ferrari arriving in Melbourne as Formula One champions, their entry could hardly be more significant."
Eight of the Ferraris in the Cleanevent Nations Cup are the latest F360 Modena Challenge coupes valued at around $350,000 each - ensuring a lot more than trophies will be at stake when the starting light goes green.
The entry list is a record for the Nations Cup category, which was launched less than a year ago by PROCAR Australia.
Six-time Bathurst champion Jim Richards is one of the early favourites for the Cleanevent races, driving the Porsche GT3 in which he won last year's Nations Cup national series.
But he faces stiff competition from fellow Porsche aces including Peter Fitzgerald, Domenic Beninca and Matthew Coleman, Prancing Horse Ferrari team young guns Mark Noske and Cameron McConville and three-time Australian Gold Star driving champion Paul Stokell, in a Lamborghini Diablo.
The event also will see the debuts of two new British racers, the lightweight Lotus Elise Sport 200 of Mark Williamson and the supercharged V8 Jaguar XKR/T of Bob Thorn.
