WPS RACING READY FOR HOME STATE ASSAULT

After the completion of 225 combined test laps of Ipswich's Queensland Raceway circuit today, there's an air of excitement attached to the WPS Racing V8 Supercar campaign in the lead up to next weekend's Queensland 300.

The home-state assault for the Gold Coast based team provides perfect timing, as they continue to nut away at producing competitive results during their second year of competition in the Australian Championship.

In the number 8 Wright Patton Shakespeare supported Falcon, driver Craig Baird enjoyed 115 laps around the 3.12 kilometre circuit and there's no doubt the outing has him super confident of putting on a good show.

"There are things that we've had to hold back on because of a lack of testing time but to get our here and tinker around should hold us well next weekend," said Baird.

"The tempo has been upbeat during the past two months and I'm really starting to find my feet at WPS Racing.

"That's probably showing in the results where we've been on the pace but have probably been lacking that little bit of luck that will see us secure the results we're aiming for.

"The lap times today were pretty impressive and overall there were only forward steps taken."

On the strength of data collected from today's test that was completed in perfect, sunny conditions, the set up for David Besnard's number 48 WPS Racing Falcon will be greatly advantaged.

Besnard's ability at his home track is unquestionable after savouring an endurance victory in 2002 and now with a strong resolve towards focussing on a competitive weekend, it all points to a special undertaking during the Queensland 300.

"We finished more than 100 laps today and took enough from the test to remain confident of a top half finish next weekend," said Besnard.

"There's no question of the value in testing for us, particularly towards this round and I'm sure we'll have a good enough package to do the job.

"Overall the balance was great and we were able to try a few things.

"We came away with some major positives, particularly in the horsepower department so we're looking pretty good.

The WPS Racing crew also took advantage of the track time to fine tune their pit stops, front pad changes and all wheel changes as the V8 Supercar endurance campaign draws closer.
