VAN GISBERGEN BACK IN THE POINTS FIGHT

Shane van Gisbergen vowed to make a comeback after the disappointment of Hamilton and he delivered once again today [Sunday] capping off the QLD Raceway weekend with another 3rd place in the final race. Taking home two third place trophies means van Gisbergen is well and truly back in the points fight sitting 3rd in the Championship.

Wilson Security Racing's Tim Slade was all set for a top 15 finish and was sitting in 11th position when Tim reported to the crew that the engine in the #47 Falcon was losing power. Slade managed to hold on and finish the race in a respectable 17th place.

Alex Davison had another hard day at the office after being penalised for an incident with Paul Dumbrell. Race Control ordered Davison to serve a Drive-through Penalty on lap 34. Davison was then left the duke out the rest of the race at the back of the field finishing 21st.

Shane van Gisbergen - Driver, SP Tools Racing Car #9

"I can't say I'm sick of getting third all the time because we are just stoked to be up on the podium at the end of the day. It's a great feeling to know we can come off a bad weekend like we had in Hamilton and turn it around like this.

"We don't want to get ahead of ourselves with the Championship, my main goal is still to get that first race win, and I think we are in top form to do it.

"In the past I haven't gone that well at Winton, so ill pour over all the data from the last few years and knuckle down and see where I need to be better and hopefully we can keep the momentum from this weekend going."

Tim Slade - Driver, Wilson Security Racing Car #47

"I reported to Wes that the engine felt like it was losing power, it felt to me like it did in New Zealand when we had a drama and to be honest I think we were lucky to finish. I was happy with where we were running so it was a shame we couldn't hang onto it.

"The last few laps I was just dropping back losing seconds per lap so the chequered flag couldn't come quick enough!

"I am feeling good about the way I am working with Wes and the car. I have done a lot of laps around Winton so I'm pretty keen to get there and see how we go!"

Alex Davison - Driver, IRWIN Racing Car #4

"We tried a lot of different setups and the car was still a bit of a handful.

"I probably deserved the drive through penalty, it was a bit unlucky because I only touched him [Dumbrell] very lightly, which is what happens a hundred times in a race and for some reason he ran a tiny bit wide but just lost it. It was almost like he had his hands off the wheel."

SBR now make the short trip home to begin preparations for the upcoming Winton event, May 14 - 16.
