PERKINS BATTLES THE HEAT IN QUEENSLAND

Dodo Racing Team driver Jack Perkins battled the stifling heat encountered by drivers in the Queensland House and Land.com 300 to add to his Championship tally at Ipswich's Queensland Raceway today.

With temperatures soaring to in excess of 50 degrees Celsius inside the cabin of the #11 Dodo Holden Commodore, Perkins' life was made difficult when his cool suit failed early in the race.

At the same time another cooling hose inside the car came adrift forcing Perkins to contest the remainder of the 65-lap race without these two cooling aids.

The strategy of the Dodo Racing Team's crew for Perkins incorporated the possibility of the race having a Safety Car period, which didn't occur, and as a consequence he was required to pit an extra time out of the normal sequence.

Perkins went on to cross the line in 26th place. Will Davison won today's race ahead of Craig Lowndes and Russell Ingall.

The next race in the 2009 V8 Supercar Championship Series is the L&H 500, the first of the two endurance races, at Phillip Island on September 11-13.

WHAT JACK HAD TO SAY --

Jack Perkins - #11 Dodo Holden Commodore:

"It was a tough race in the Dodo Commodore," said Perkins.

"We had cool suit failure on about lap 3. The air blower nose came off the cool box as well, so it was tough to get on with it.

"We were hoping for a Safety Car today to really utilise our soft tyres. It didn't happen so it was good to finish and I'm looking forward to the next race.

"It's frustrating, we have always tried to get it (the pit stop and soft tyes strategy) to work for us and it doesn't. It's just the way it goes."
