WINTERBOTTOM JOINS CANTEEN AS AN AMBASSADOR

Larkham -- Orrcon Racing's Mark Winterbottom recently joined the official Ambassador program for CanTeen, called TeenMates.

CanTeen is a national peer support organisation for young people aged between 12 & 24 who are living with cancer.

Members of CanTeen include cancer patients, their siblings and young people who may have parents or primary careers with cancer. The organisation provides its Members with the opportunity to meet and share their own personal experiences of living with cancer, with other young people who have been through similar experiences.

As a CanTeen TeenMate , Winterbottom will join other leading identities from the entertainment, arts, sporting, music and business worlds who believe in the vision of CanTeen and are doing their bit to help young Australians living with cancer.

"I am really pleased to be a part of the TeenMate program, I am always happy to be able to do my bit to make the world a happier place for the young people of Australia," said Winterbottom.

"I have been lucky that in my life I haven't had to go through what these guys have had to go through, so if I can bring a smile to their face by giving them some of my time and sharing some of the fun with them, I am happy to do so."

In 2003 Winterbottom helped one of CanTeen's Members live out a life long dream by taking him for a ride in his Orrcon Racing V8 Supercar around Queensland Raceway.Unfortunately this Member lost his battle against cancer early last year but the beaming smile that he showed after his ride will stay in Winterbottom's memory for a long time to come.

"It certainly brings a new respect from me on my life and how you should always take full advantage of every opportunity," said the 24-year-old.

"CanTeen does a great job with the young people living with cancer and everyone there has a positive outlook on life, something that I believe everyone can take notice of."

Those joining Winterbottom as a part of the CanTeen TeenMates program include Nickelodean presenters James Kerley and Tony Brockman, Getaway presenter Natalie Gruzlewski, Ray White Real Estate's Managing Director, John Shore and Industrie Clothing Managing Director Nick Kelly.

Winterbottom and his Larkham-Orrcon Racing team-mate will be in action this weekend in the SKYCITY V8 Supercars Darwin at Hidden Valley Raceway.
