Practice for this weekend's Jim Beam 400 at Oran Park Raceway near Sydney has produced two entirely different results for Tasman Motorsport's Jason Richards and Greg Murphy.
Richards recorded the fifth quickest time during today's session in his Grove Group Tasman Motorsport Holden VE Commodore, while Murphy could not muster anything better than 30th best.
Richards said he was pleased with his performance but said gains made during a recent test at Winton did not translate to Oran Park.
"Initially we were quick out of the truck although it became obvious that the Winton setup wasn't suited to this track, so we needed to make some changes," Richards said.
"We have always run well at Oran Park and so we went back to a setup more appropriate for the style of circuit it is and by the end of the session I was pleased where we finished."
New Tasman Motorsport Managing Director, Jeff Grech said today - his first at the track with the team - was a day of all sorts.
"Today produced interesting results that's for sure. Tonight we'll at what's transpired during the session, process all the data and work from there, but Jason's result was encouraging," Grech said.
Following the session, South Sydney Rabbitohs and New Zealand international David Kidwell enjoyed a fast lap of the Oran Park circuit with Richards.
Kidwell made the most of the hot lap after squeezing his 188cm, 105kg frame into the Grove Tasman Commodore.
"I gave it everything and David loved the lap, although when he offered to swap experiences I passed on the opportunity to have him run into me ... I think I'll stick to the safety of the driver's seat in the Tasman Commodore!" Richards said.
For Oran Park, Richards and Murphy's Commodores are carrying the GROVE Group signage as part of the team's successful segmented sponsorship program.
The Grove Group specialises in the hire, design, manufacture and sales of relocatable buildings for the Mining, Commercial and Construction Sectors.
Qualifying for this weekend's races begins tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon at 1.05pm with the first of three 46 lap races following at 3.05pm.
