JIM Richards shot to a 40-point lead in the Century Batteries GTP Nations Cup with two wins and the retirement of his closest rivals in round five today at Oran Park Racecway, near Sydney. Richards, driving a Porsche 911 GT3, was a comfortable winner in both races on the 2.62 km circuit and finished the day with a total of 135 point in the Meguiar's Top Marques Drivers Championship. Mark Noske, who is second in the championship on 95 points, claimed a second place in race one but then pulled off the track with transmission problems in his Ferrari F360 Modena Challenge before the start of race two. The second race saw Paul Stokell leap into an early second spot in his Lamborghini Diablo SVR before it also was forced to retire, with an expired engine. "This was a good day, but you've got to get the points while you can," Richards said. "I was fortunate in a sense that Mark and Paul had to pull out of the second race, but it could just as easily be my back luck one day." This weekend's races in the Century Batteries GTP Nations Cup will be shown on Trackside on Network Ten throughout Australia next Sunday, 6 August, from 3 pm. The second race featured an exciting duel between Porsche driver Peter Bradbury, who eventually finished second for a Porsche 1-2 with Richards, and the Ferrari of Christian Jones, son of 1980 world champion Alan Jones. <pre> RESULTS: Race 1 (10 laps) Race 2 (14 laps) 1.
