McConville to start from 5th at team home race.
July 27, 2002 - 4:50pm - Lansvale Racing V8 Supercar Team driver Cameron McConville set the 5th fastest time in the high pressure Top Ten Shootout this afternoon at Sydney's Oran Park Raceway.
This earned the sole Sydney based team in the bumper 36 car field a 5th place start in the first of tomorrow's two 58 lap races. The Holden VX Commodore V8 Supercar driver looked set for a second row start in 4th until HRT driver and Championship leader Mark Skaife bettered his lap by one thousandth of a second!
Pole position went to Ford driver Marcos Ambrose, with Jason Bright, Craig Lowndes and Mark Skaife starting ahead of McConville on the grid. Garth Tander, Glenn Seton and Russell Ingall will be starting behind the Lansvale Racing Team VX Commodore tomorrow.
Cameron McConville - "I'm absolutely wrapt to start in the top five - I was confident to make the top ten and this is a great result for the whole team. We have always had a strong racecar but qualifying has generally been our achillies heel. If we can keep out of trouble and look after our tyres we have as good a chance as anyone in the field tomorrow."
Chief Engineer, Wally Storey - "I'm very happy with our performance today. Obviously the home circuit advantage played into it a bit, but this series is so competitive and that is what makes this result very satisfying. We are keeping very good company in 5th and we now have a lot of work to do to make it a good racecar for the two races tomorrow."
