JASON BRIGHT TAKES THIRD POLE POSITION OF THE SEASON
August 12, 2006 - CAT FPR Falcon driver Jason Bright has raced to his third V8 Supercar Pole position of the season at Sydney's Oran Park Raceway today.
The Ford driver displayed unbeatable form throughout qualifying today, setting the fastest lap in qualifying and backing this up with a dominant performance in the top ten shoot-out to determine starting grid positions. Bright took the top spot and FPR's fifth front row start of the season by a commanding gap of half a second ahead of Mark Skaife and Ford driver Craig Lowndes.
Sydney born BroadIP Ford Credit Falcon driver Mark Winterbottom also performed very strongly today, trading places with his team mate for the top spot in qualifying, settling at second overall.
Winterbottom set the 6th fastest lap of the shoot-out, the 25 year old driver narrowly missing a front row start after a slight lose when exiting the tricky bridge section of the circuit.
Both Bright and Winterbottom have reported excellent cars for today's first 38 lap race of the round, which is scheduled to start at 3:30pm in perfect weather conditions.
#6 Jason Bright - "Our hard work during practice really paid off for qualifying and the shoot-out. The car is in top form and we are looking forward to taking our pace into this weekend's three races. It is particularly satisfying to take Pole position on a circuit as technically challenging as this one."
#5 Mark Winterbottom - "The car is in great shape for the races and even though I led the field during most of the qualifying session, there were still some issues with the car that we needed to sort. I think that we did that and it was excellent to trade places with Jason for the top spot. Unfortunately I had a bit of a moment during the shoot-out lap, but I am still pleased with our top six start."
