Nissan Motorsport has announced it will give an Australian Formula 4 driver a V8 Supercars test next year.
Rather than the test automatically going to the winner of the new-for-2015 open-wheeler category, Todd and Rick Kelly will decide which of the handful of drivers gearing up for the inaugural series will get to test the Altima V8 Supercar.
“Developing young talent is something that Rick and I are passionate about, considering the hard work that we went through to become professional racing drivers,” said Todd Kelly.
“We know better than most the money, equipment and commitment that is needed to have a decent crack at a career in this game.”
The deal has been organised through caravan makers Jayco, who sponsor both Formula 4 and are currently the major backer’s of the #7 Altima.
“When Todd and I started the business, we always had a keen interest in having a development program to allow young guys and girls the same opportunity that we had in our early years,” added Rick Kelly.
“It’s exciting that Jayco shares the same passion for youth development and we’re looking forward to working with them in conjunction with its commitment to Formula 4.”
