For Jason Bright, today's two Formula One Rolex Australian Formula One Grand Prix V8 Supercar support races show that the newly built Team BOC VF Commodore has the pace of the front-runners.
The previous chassis was hastily replaced following the Clipsal 500 rollover in Adelaide, but thankfully, despite only a brief test run before the event, Bright suffered no issues in either qualifying or the race.
With each support race featuring the same type of rolling start that led to the Adelaide accident, Bright was understandably cautious at the start of race one.Despite dropping from 8th to 13th, Bright was confident of making up spots but a mid-race off-track excursion pushed him back to 14th.
In the second race a better start rocketed the Team BOC driver up to 8th, shadowing reigning champion Jamie Whincup for the rest of the race.
Jason Bright:
"In the first race I just wanted to stay out of trouble at the start but I just go lunged and bombed (by other drivers) and pushed back, and that set me up for a difficult race. In the second race I felt like if we qualified better we would have been really comfortable in the top 3. We caught Whincup really quickly and certainly didn't look as comfortable as we were but once you get in the dirty air (behind another car), it's difficult for us to pass. We'll just keep chipping away and working our way to the front as the weekend. continues."
Tekno's Shane Van Gisbergen won both races today.
Two further 12 lap races make up the Formula One Rolex Australian Grand Prix V8 Supercar support race program.
Race 3 commences at 3:25pm
