Leading Ford driver in the V8 Supercar Championship Series, Marcos Ambrose, has bruised a shoulder in a minor skiing mishap.

Ambrose, who is currently fifth in the championship after finishing third outright in round eight at Winton at the weekend, fell awkwardly during an annual two-day skiing trip at Mt Bulla with his Stone Brothers Racing team.

As a result, he has a slightly bruised AC joint in his left shoulder and will be forced to "take it easy" for a few days.

"I was doing about 2km an hour when I just over balanced," said Ambrose from his Gold Coast home this morning.

"I could have done the same thing walking down the stairs at home or playing with the dog.

"I guess I am a little embarrassed I did it the way I did and not at a million miles an hour.

"I need to rest it for a couple of days before I start some physiotherapy. The doctors tell me I should have full mobility within a week.

"This will interrupt my training schedule a little, but will not hinder our efforts in the last five rounds of the championship."

Ambrose is expected to be 100% fit in time for the team's next scheduled test session at Queensland Raceway on September 5 before teaming with Paul Weel in the Pirtek Falcon for the VIP Petfoods Queensland 500 at the same venue on September 13-15.
