SATCC Round 6 - 24/5/98 RACE 1 11:00am 24/5/98 Bowe Takes First Blood, Ingall Second John Bowe Takes Race 1! Shell's John Bowe has taken first blood at Adelaide's Mallala circuit winning the first Shell race of Round 6 in damp conditions from a fast charging and aggressive Russell Ingall in the Castrol Commodore. Race 1 - Start 24/5/98 Series leader, Ingall was desperate for a big result to extend his slender championship lead over Craig Lowndes, and had the gun start - charging from 5th to 2nd. But Bowe led from start to finish, driving at his defensive best to take the chequered flag in his Ford Falcon nearly half a second in front of Ingall; with Mobil's Lowndes third in his Commodore. Larry Perkins was fourth; with father and son - Ford's Dick and Steven Johnson spinning in separate incidents but finishing 5th and 6th respectively; with Glenn Seton 7th. Pole sitter Mark Skaife had a disaster race, charging into Steven Johnson at the southern hairpin and eventually taking 8th. RACE 2 1:05pm 24/5/98 Ingall takes Race 2 Perkins/Bowe Spin Russell Ingall looks ready to seal another victory with a win in Race 2 of the Shell V8 Series. On a dry track, Ingall led from start to finish to win the 17 lap race by six seconds. Behind him the action was fast and furious. Shell's John Bowe, running second, was hit by Larry Perkins and sent into a spin—dropping back to 14th. Perkins was sent to the pits by stewards for his misdemeanours, give two stop/go penalties and limping home in 15th. Russell Ingall Race 2 Winner Meanwhile Dick Johnson in the Shell Helix Falcon held off Mobil's Craig Lowndes for second place, with Glenn Seton in the Ford Credit Falcon 4th. RACE 3 3:10pm 24/5/98 Castrol Commodore Driver, Russell Ingall won the day at Round 6 of the Shell V8 Series at Adelaide's Mallala, putting another 4 points between himself and rival Craig Lowndes to head to Perth next weekend with an 8 point advantage. Lowndes Race 3 Winner Ingall's controlled but aggressive driving saw him secure second in race one and victory in the second race. He led the third race but surrendered to the charging Lowndes on lap 7 to finish second. Lowndes took the final 17 lap battle in his Mobil Commodore to finish second overall, while Ford's Glenn Seton picked up a 7th, 4th and 3rd place to secure 3rd overall. It was disaster day for Mobil team mate, Mark Skaife, who was disqualified from race one and race two — race one for slamming into Steven Johnson at the southern hairpin and in race two for running under unmarked tyres. The Mobil team is appealing the decision. Young Steven Johnson survived the Skaife altercation though, and finished a credible 4th overall in the Race for Life Falcon. Tasmania's Dean Crosswell — the reigning Commodore Cup Champion — was impressive in his V8 debut in the Greg Crick Commodore, winning the Privateers Cup.
