Strong start for Sydney's V8 Supercar Team.

October 10, 2002 - Sydney's Lansvale Racing Team has powered through a

strong first day's practice at Mount Panorama today, as the 2002 Bob Jane

T-Marts 1000 roared to life.

Team drivers Cameron McConville and Warren Luff set a number of consistent

laps in the team's Holden VX Commodore in cool and overcast conditions. The one hour practice session saw McConville set fast lap times that placed the Lansvale Racing Team well within the top ten until the closing minutes of the session, when a number of competitors set faster times on new tyres.

McConville's best lap time across the 6.2 kilometre Mount Panorama circuit was 2:13.1686s.

Sydney based Lansvale Racing Team co-driver Warren Luff put in an impressive performance today in his Bathurst V8 Supercar debut. A mid session red flag interrupted the driver's progress, but to that point his lap times improved at a rate of half a second a lap, with a fastest lap of 2:14.1556s bringing the 26 year old to within a second of his experienced team mate after only ten laps.

Cameron McConville - "The car was very good today, but I had some trouble getting a clear run with the traffic. The balance of the car is good at this early point and it was getting better as the session progressed."

Warren Luff - "Although the red flag stopped my first run early, the break gave me time to think about those laps and how to improve them, making me much more confident during my second stint. I am happy to be within a second of Cameron given the small number of laps that I've done so far."

Wally Storey, Chief Engineer - "I'm happy with our pace at this stage - this gives us a solid start as we head towards what will be a very competitive qualifying session tomorrow."

The team is ranked 21st overall at this early stage, with the fastest times in the session set by HRT drivers Jason Bright (2:10.3921s), Jim Richards (2:10.7325s) and Falcon driver Glenn Seton (2:11.2809s).

The Lansvale Racing Team is aiming for a top ten finish at this double-points earning round of the Australian V8 Supercar Championship, the 40th running of this classic 1000 kilometre enduro.
