Howard Racing was looking forward to a more productive race three than the previous two races of this weekend's Konica - Minolta V8 Supercar event, to conclude their weekend at Queensland Raceway.
Cameron McLean driving the Breakfree Resort car # 27started in 23rd place, Aaron Magill driving the Dux car #38 started in 21st place and Tim Gordon driving car # 83 started at the back of the grid in 27th position.
McLean looked set to outperform his efforts in races 1 & 2 yesterday, climbing to 16th place by the end of lap 1. Car #69 of Robert Jones left the circuit in lap two bringing out the safety car.
When the race proper got underway again Mclean was able to charge through again to be up in 12th placing by lap 5. Everything seemed to be going well for McLean when he was tapped from behind on lap 6 and forced into a turn and found himself off the circuit yet again.
Although not coming to a complete stand still, McLean was forced to come back onto the circuit well behind the cars he had just passed just moments before.
It really must have seemed like "ground hog day" for McLean who had experienced a similar fate in the races yesterday, by having to make up the same placing's yet again.
Lap 7 saw Wakefield, driving car #13 leave the circuit in the centre of the paddock, although he managed to get the car mobile again, the dry conditions of the surroundings meant that the heat generated by his car and the tinder dry grass was enough to start a grass fire.
The situation called for Safety car conditions and the fire truck being called upon to extinguish the fire.
At this stage, McLean was running in 22nd position, McGill was in 20th and Gordon was back in 25th spot.
Soon after this incident McGill had an off in the Howard Racing Dux car #38 that saw him hit the tyre barrier, having incurred too much damage for the car to be able to continue.
Mclean in the meantime continued to again battle his way up through the field to take over 16th place at the halfway mark in the race on lap 14. An off by Jamie Cartwright in lap 17 in car #110 saw the safety car enter the circuit yet again.
At this stage Gordon in the Howard Racing 'First State Development' car #83 was at 21st place and McLean in the Howard Racing 'Breakfree Resort' car #27 was in 14th placing.
The race was dogged by yellow flags with racing incidents, causing many competitors to get a taste of the sand surrounds of the Queensland Raceway.
Lap 28 saw McLean experience a coming together with car #65 the Actron Air /PCR car driven by Marcus Zukanovic, causing McLean to be shown the black flag.
The hard work McLean had put in again by coming back up through the field, had come to nothing with him having to go back to the back of the field at this late stage in the race.
McLean ended up finishing the race in 19th position with team -mate Tim Gordon in 20th position and McGill was unable to finish.
