KELLY RACING ANNOUNCES SIGNING OF JASON BARGWANNA
Kelly Racing will boast one of the most experienced and decorated driver line-ups in the V8 Supercar field with the addition of Jason Bargwanna to the team next season.
The signing of Bargwanna brings yet another front-running driver into the Kelly Racing line-up, with the team now fielding three drivers that are former Bathurst champions and proven race winning V8 Supercar drivers.
Kelly Racing is already working hard at raising its game for 2010, with three podiums in the past two events showing the potential of the Braeside-based operation, which officially opened its doors for the first time in March this year.
Entering the 2010 V8 Supercar Championship Series, Kelly Racing's driver line-up will have 388 event starts between Todd and Rick Kelly and Bargwanna.
It will be the first time that 37-year-old Bargwanna will race as part of a four-car V8 Supercar team, with previous stints at Garry Rogers Motorsport, Larkham Motorsport, WPS Racing and Tasman Motorsport.
This deal also reunites Bargwanna and the Kelly brothers, with all three drivers products of the Holden Young Lions driver development program.
KELLY RACING QUOTEBOARD:
"This is great news for Kelly Racing," said Todd Kelly.
"All the boys are really excited about 'Bargs' joining us next year and they can't wait.
"It's fantastic for Rick and I to have a driver to push us along and put us under pressure.
"There will be things that we can learn from him and it will be great to have another car up the front."
"Given that this is our first year our team is already quite strong and this gives us extra strength heading into our second season in 2010," said Rick Kelly.
"It's definitely a step forward and it's great for us. It offers Todd and myself an opportunity to learn from another driver and we're always excited about that.
"Bringing 'Bargs' onboard is a big step in the right of direction for Kelly Racing.
"He has a lot of experience and I'm really excited about next year."
Q & A with Jason Bargwanna:
QUESTION: The entire team is very excited to be adding another driver that is capable of podiums, race wins, pole positions and to run in the top 10 in the championship. From your point of view, how excited are you to join Todd and Rick at Kelly Racing in 2010?
"From the outset I've always focused on the fact that I want to be in a competitive opportunity and I really respect what Todd, Rick and the whole team are putting together," said Jason Bargwanna.
"I think that if you look at the team's that are on the up and up, this is certainly the one that shines like a beacon at the moment.
"The team has proven over the last six months that the competitiveness of the team, the results, the focus, the energy, the people, the staff, it's what you need to be a championship contender."
QUESTION: Todd and Rick are already excited about getting to work with you as a team-mate on improving the entire Kelly Racing operation. Do you really look forward to working with other team-mates on improving the team as a whole?
"I like to pride myself on good work ethic. What we all try and achieve here up and down pit lane, I've worked really hard at over the years and I still haven't given up on my goal to be a championship contender.
"That's why it attracts me to be part of this group of guys. When you look at what's involved here and the people and the mentality, both equipment-wise, staff-wise and commercially, it's one of the teams that you would put at the top of the list to be a part of.
"I'm really looking forward to the opportunity. I'm grateful for the chance to be part of such a big team and I think we can get the results that everyone is striving for."
QUESTION: Are you excited about being a part of such a big team with four cars? You've driven for two-car teams at Garry Rogers Motorsport, Larkham Motorsport, WPS Racing and Tasman Motorsport, but now you're a part of that big, spectacular Kelly Racing workshop at Braeside and one of four drivers and around 50 staff.
"I'm pumped. I'm seriously pumped. I'm so excited about being a part of it.
"At Tasman this year we've had some good results but we've probably struggled from being a two-car team. But we're competing against four, and in some cases more, car teams.
"So for me, I'm just so excited about this opportunity and I think that it has all the ingredients to deliver, Rick, Todd or myself a championship because there is no doubt that we're all very focused on it, we get on quite well and we race hard.
"I think it is going to be a good season next year."
