V8 Supercar Championship frontrunner Jamie Whincup will take to the water with Malibu Boats during his well-earned break and beyond, announcing a new personal sponsorship with the industry leading marine manufacturer. The 25-year-old Gold Coast resident and man most likely to be crowned 2008 V8 champion today took possession of a new Malibu Wakesetter VLX, fittingly, on just the second day of Summer. A wakeboarding enthusiast, Whincup was excited about the prospect of the relationship with Malibu and said he looked forward to hitting the water once the hard work of winning his first V8 Supercar championship was done.
"I'm excited about announcing a new personal sponsorship with Malibu Boats, next to my passion for race cars I am a keen wakeboarder and am looking forward to a relaxing summer aboard the Wakesetter VLX," said Whincup. "Malibu is a renowned and respected name in the industry and has a reputation for creating a range of quality boats.
"I'd like to extend my thanks to everyone at Malibu and hope that they will join me in celebrating the championship win I've been working hard for this weekend."
Malibu Boats Marketing Manager, David Thorpe said Jamie's simple passion for waterskiing, wakeboarding and family boating was what founded the relationship. "We are thrilled to have Jamie join our athlete program and endorse Malibu Boats," said Thorpe."His stories of growing up camping by the Murray River with family and friends, spending the days skiing and wakeboarding really summed up what it is all about and that keeping the balance in this modern world is the most important thing.
"His distinguished driving career, humble nature and mainstream appeal at such a young age really is an accomplishment that makes him a role model to all young Australians.
"Everyone here at Malibu Boats, along with dealers all around Australia, wish him all the best for this coming weekend and hope the dream of his driver's championship unfolds this Sunday!"
Whincup has won the Bathurst 1000 for three consecutive seasons and is set to write his name into the history books this weekend, with the 2008 V8 Supercar Championship well within his grasp. He has one of the most enviable win records in recent years next to his name, having won four rounds in a row, as well as having finished on maximum or equal maximum points for the past six.
