HRT withdraws No. 2 Tander/Luff entry from Bathurst 1000

Some big news out of Bathurst as we will see one of the star teams absent from Sunday's grid.

The HRT team has decided to withdraw one of its two entries from the Bathurst 1000, following a heavy shunt in the final practice session. The car has crashed twice this weekend, but today's accident was the final nail in the coffin for the team.

This now leaves Garth Tander and Warren Luff on the sidelines for the biggest race in all of Australia. Tander is a three-time winner of the event, doing so in 2000, 2009, and 2011. He goes into this race ninth in the championship standings.

The 2014 Bathurst 1000 will be the first V8 Supercar race Garth Tander fails to start since the second race of the 2004 season at Adelaide. He also hasn't missed the 'great race' itself since 1997 so this is quite a monumental story.

The team attempted to repair the car, but quickly realized that it would be an impossible task. The duo finished third in the Sandown 500 last month. Teammate James Courtney has been elevated to the top ten shootout as a result of his withdrawal.
