LOWNDES TOP PLACED FORD IN OPENING DARWIN PRACTICE

Team Betta Electrical's Craig Lowndes has recorded the fourth fastest time in the opening two hour practice session at Darwin's Hidden Valley Raceway today.

With a time of 1.09.8044 Lowndes was the quickest of all Ford drivers and only .21 of a second behind provisional pole sitter Todd Kelly.

Under the watchful eye of Triple Eight Race Engineering's UK team principal Ian Harrison Team Betta Electrical used the two hour limited lap session to try different corner handling setups.

Lowndes said his team used the session to their best ability and was delighted with the car's performance and balance at the end of the session.

"We really used the session well today," Lowndes said. "Full credit must go to the team they worked really hard throughout the session to get the setup right.

"The team changed a number of things to get to the setup we reached at the end of the session.

"It was great to be the top placed Ford today we have a few more gains to make tomorrow.

Lowndes team mate Steve Ellery had a tough session and said his poor tyre bank reflected his today's practice result which saw him finish twenty-fourth.

"I started out with a poor tyre bank which was reflective of where we finished today," Ellery said.

"It was a tough session today and we made a lot of changes but I think we got there with setup in the end.

"I am confident we will move back up the time sheets tomorrow once we move onto good tyres.

Qualifying gets underway at 11.30am, the top ten shootout is at 12.30pm and race one starts at 3.00pm.
