McLean 24th in second V8 race in Darwin
BRISBANE'S Cameron McLean dodged a huge accident and survived a last-minute mechanical drama in his V.I.P. Pet Foods Ford Falcon to finish 24th in the second race of round four of the V8 Supercar Championship Series at Hidden Valley circuit in Darwin today.
McLean will start from that position in the third and final leg later today after his crew replaces a broken seal that allowed oil smoke to belch from the rear axle during the final five laps this morning.
In extremely hot weather, the V.I.P. Pet Foods Racing driver started 30th and managed to avoid a huge shunt on lap one involving around 10 cars. After the re-start, he made steady progress as the car showed the benefit of overnight suspension changes.
"The heat and pressure were obviously too much for the hub seal and the oil started to leak about five laps from the finish. I was hoping the differential wouldn't run out of oil or the officials wouldn't pull me in for a look," McLean said.
"This racing is all about position and we've picked up six places on the grid for the last race. Hopefully we can progress again and pick up some good points for the championship."
