REWARDING OPENING DAY IN DARWIN FOR ORRCON RACING
Larkham -- Orrcon Racing has been rewarded for its tireless two weeks of non-stop repairs to Mark Winterbottom's Orrcon Racing Falcon with impressive pace during opening practice at the SKYCITY V8 Supercar event in Darwin today.
Winterbottom was joined by his team-mate Jason Bargwanna in a charge towards the front of the pack with the pair of Orrcon Racing Falcons charging towards the top ten throughout the two-hour session.
In his best practice effort this year Winterbottom was well inside the top ten during the final half of the session. With seconds remaining the 24-year-old held the 10th fastest time before finishing the session four one-hundreths of a second outside the top ten in 11th.
Bargwanna, who has previously finished second at the 2.9 kilometre Hidden Valley Circuit, set a time a little over a tenth from Winterbottom to be 17th in the competitive field with the top 26 cars separated by less than a second.
The practice pace continues the momentum for the team from the final race in Shanghai when Bargwanna passed 17 cars to finish 14th.
The action continues tomorrow with qualifying and the opening 17-lap race. The round is highlighted with a pair of 48-lap races on Sunday.

"We have made some very positive gains in a lot of areas throughout the car
"It is no doubt that today has been our most rewarding Friday of the year so far which is pleasing but I am never happy until we are on top of the time sheets.
"The speed shown today has given us a good base to work with leading into tomorrow's qualifying and opening race."

"Today was a good start to the weekend, probably the best so far this year.
"We continually chipped away at the set up and seem to have a pretty fast car at the moment. My fastest lap felt quite easy and there is still a fair bit of improvement that can be found which is very encouraging.
"What made today even more rewarding was the fact that every little change we made to the car seemed to make improve the speed. The aim is to be well inside the top ten during qualifying tomorrow."
"Today was a very rewarding day for the team and a very positive start for Mark after his drain grate incident in China.
"It has been a first class effort by the guys to repair the Number 20 Orrcon Falcon in such good shape during the last two weeks and to show this sort of pace straight out of the box is very encouraging for everyone involved.
"This effort put in by the team with their preparation has given new engineering recruit Greg Wheeler the opportunity a very strong base to work with in his first weekend with the team."
