IRWIN RACING SIXTH IN DARWIN

Following on from IRWIN Racing's success at last year's V8 Supercar race in Darwin, driver Alex Davison has maintained his form, placing sixth in practice today.

Davison was in the top 10 for the majority of the day, placing as high as second in the day's third practice session.

Set-up changes will be made to the IRWIN Ford in preparation for Saturday's qualifying session.

Both Davison and his engineer David Stuart are pleased with the progress made today and are aiming for a top 10 start position for the weekend's first race.

What Irwin Racing's Alex Davison had to say:

"The end result was okay, if IRWIN Racing can stay up there I'll be really happy. The IRWIN Ford is not too bad on green tyres, but it's using old tyres rather aggressively. We're concentrating on improving this. With the hot conditions, Hidden Valley Raceway is hard on tyres, so it's important that the car looks after them. This is what we are looking to improve at the moment. There's more work to be done to stay on the pace over the weekend. We've got the opportunity to try a couple of things tomorrow and see how we go. It's good being in the top 10 overall after practice but I'm not punching the air just yet. We'll see how we go in qualifying tomorrow."

What Irwin Racing Engineer David Stuart had to say:

"IRWIN Racing has progressed pretty well today. Having Alex place in the top 10 is encouraging and a good start. We were on some pretty good tyres but I'm sure that many others were on reasonably good tyres also. We're still not exactly where we want to be, but I think we learnt a lot today that will help over the course of the weekend. We'll make some small changes tonight and come out swinging again in the morning. Obviously Alex did a great job here last year, we've had a look back at the set up and we've followed along similar lines. We came set up close to last year's race two set up. The track is different this year compared to last year as are the temperatures, which affects the car greatly. Having a good car here last year definitely makes it easier. If we can qualify the IRWIN Ford in the top 10 tomorrow I'll be extremely happy."
