WOOD POSTS SOLID 22ND PLACE RUN AT HIDDEN VALLEY
Hi-Tec Oils Racing driver Dale Wood has posted a solid 22nd place finish in the second race of the SKYCITY Triple Crown at Hidden Valley Raceway in Darwin, NT today.
Wood scored enough points in today's 69-lap race to jump one position in the 2009 V8 Supercar Championship Series standings, passing Jason Bargwanna to now sit in 26th place on the points table.
Wood started the #16 Hi-Tec Oils Holden Commodore on the harder compound tyres, before using the softer 'option' tyres for his middle stint to make up ground.
The V8 Supercar rookie then drove hard throughout his final stint, racing with Greg Murphy and Cameron McConville over the final stages as he fought for his fourth top 20 finish of the season.
Michael Caruso won today's second race of the SKYCITY Triple Crown ahead of Alex Davison, Craig Lowndes and Rick Kelly.
The next event in the 2009 V8 Supercar Championship Series is the inaugural Dunlop Townsville 400 in far north Queensland on July 10-12.
WHAT DALE HAD TO SAY ...
Dale Wood - #16 Hi-Tec Oils Holden Commodore:
"It was a long race," said Wood.
"I got an OK start and then just tried to pick off positions where I could.
"We pitted pretty early and went onto soft tyres and after the stop. I was in some pretty clear air, so we had some fast lap times and I was trying to make up track position.
"After our next stop we started racing for position and we finished up OK. The Hi-Tec Oils Commodore was good and strong and never missed a beat. It was good to have some close racing.
"I was caught amongst a few cars at the restart that were coming through, so it was just a matter of getting through that and trying to hold position with Murph and McConville behind me."
