GC ENTRANT FRANCHITTI NOMINATED FOR ESPY 'BEST DRIVER' AWARD

Armor All Gold Coast 600 international entrant Dario Franchitti has been nominated for the Best Driver category of the 2010 ESPY Awards.

The two-time IndyCar Series Champion who claimed his second Indy 500 win earlier this year will drive for Jim Beam Racing alongside James Courtney on the streets of the Gold Coast over the Friday October 22 to Sunday October 24 event.

The ESPYs gather top celebrities from sports and entertainment to commemorate the past year in sports by recognizing major sports achievements, reliving unforgettable moments and saluting the leading performers and performances.

Franchitti is one of five champion drivers nominated for the Best Driver award -- decided entirely on fan votes - which is to be presented in Los Angeles on July 14. Voting is being hosted at www.espys.tv and closes on July 10 US time.

Also set to be on the Gold Coast in October is Frenchman Sebastien Bourdais, who will compete with Dick Johnson Racing.

Bourdais was on the track at the weekend, competing in the Superleague Formula event at Germany's famous Nurburgring circuit.

After running wide on the opening lap of race one Bourdais was forced to fight through the field over the 26 lap stanza, coming home in 14th position. Race two was to come to a premature end with a gearbox issue forcing him out of the running.

All of the international drivers for the Armor All Gold Coast 600 are set to arrive on the Gold Coast on the Sunday before the event and will be involved in a week of activity, including a full-day test at Queensland Raceway on Wednesday, October 20.

The Armor All Gold Coast 600 will include two 300km races on Saturday and Sunday of the event, with the international drivers required to complete a minimum of 30% of each of the races.
