OWEN KELLY RETURNS TO FPR IN 2007
April 14, 2007 - Ford Performance Racing (FPR) welcomes back a familiar face to the Prodrive team for this year's Sandown 500 and Bathurst 1000 endurance races. Highly experienced V8 Supercar racer Owen Kelly returns after having last competed with the team during its debut season in 2003.
The talented 30 year old Tasmanian driver completes a most competitive FPR enduro driver line-up that includes regular season drivers Steve Richards and Mark Winterbottom, along with New Zealand based A1 Grand Prix and Conquest Racing Champ Car driver Matt Halliday.
Kelly has competed in no fewer than seven V8 Supercar endurance race campaigns during his career, gaining vast experience with a number of major V8 Supercar teams including FPR, Dick Johnson Racing, Glenn Seton Racing, Tasman Motorsports and PWR (Paul Weel Racing) among others.
Kelly's V8 Supercar Development Series resume boasts eleven race victories and three overall round wins. He has also been frequently called upon to substitute for main V8 Supercar Championship Series drivers during recent seasons.
The returning FPR endurance race driver is looking forward to re-kindling his association with a team which has vastly improved since making its Championship debut in 2003.
"It is great to be re-joining FPR for the endurance races this season. As most of the crew are the same group of guys who I worked with back in 2003, I am looking forward to competing with a familiar and highly professional crew. Working with Steve, Mark and Matt is a major advantage of racing with this team which is without a doubt one of the best in the Championship. The FPR Falcons are always amongst the fastest in the series at any given time and I am looking forward to what lies ahead at Sandown and Bathurst," Kelly said.
According to FPR Motorsport Director Tim Edwards, "It is great to welcome Owen back to FPR for this year's endurance racing season. It is always our goal to secure the most experienced and talented co-drivers available and we believe that we have achieved this with Owen and Matt sharing the co-driving duties of the FPR Falcons at these major races. As the defending Sandown 500 Champion team and with our goal of winning the biggest one of all at Mount Panorama, we head towards these races with a highly experienced and exciting driver line-up."
The team will announce its driver pairings for the Sandown and Bathurst endurance races at a later date.
