FORD'S AFL CAT REPLACES V8 FALCON

Ford's sporting family is coming together this week to celebrate Geelong Football Club's 150th anniversary with a commemorative livery on the Ford Performance Racing falcons.

Both FPR cars will replace the customary falcon on the rear quarters with the Geelong Cat for the Norton 360 Sandown event later this month.

Geelong's 150 logo will also run on the Castrol and Orrcon Steel FPR Falcon front bars as well as both Stone Brothers Racing entries.

Ford has sponsored Geelong Football Club as long as it has produced cars in Australia: more than 80 years. It is believed the association is one of the longest continuous sporting sponsorships in the world.

FPR driver Steve Richards will accompany the $500,000 race car to Skilled Stadium tomorrow (Saturday) for The Cats' clash with the Melbourne Football Club.

Melbourne, formed in early 1859, is the only club with a longer history than Geelong, which was formed in July 1859.

The 360 Norton Sandown event will take place on August 1st and 2nd.

"Ford's always supported sports but the Geelong relationship is a pretty extreme example; the V8 Supercars weren't even conceived when it started up!

"Of course, there's a bit of sibling rivalry but we've got a pretty steep hill to climb if we're ever going to match their 150-year honour-roll!

"We're very proud to carry the Cats' logo; hopefully we'll inherit a bit of their winning streak with it at Sandown!"
