FERRARI driver Mark Noske took the lead in the Century Batteries GTP Nations Cup after winning the second race of the inaugural round in Adelaide today.

Noske literally leapt into the lead on the ninth of 14 laps of the city street course with a dramatic move on GT production car champion Jim Richards, in a Porsche 911 GT3.

Left with nowhere to go in an ambitious lunge at the Senna Chicane, Noske's $350,000 Ferrari F360 Modena Challenge flew off the kerbs and landed ahead of Richards.

"I went in too hot, Jim had the line and I had to go across the chicane. I was hoping the officials didn't call me in for a penalty," said Noske, 25.

Richards finished 5.45 seconds behind Noske, with Steve Webb third in another Porsche GT3. The first of the new and untried Dodge Vipers was driven by Rusty French to 13th place.

Paul Stokell, the pole sitter and winner of yesterday's first-leg race, forced his Lamborghini Diablo SVR up to fourth at the finish today after losing several places with a spin.

With a pole position and third place also to his credit this weekend, Noske leads the Meguiar's Top Marques Drivers Championship by two points from Richards.

The new eight-round national series features some of the world's fastest GT production cars, including Ferrari and Lamborghini from Italy, Porsche and BMW from Germany, Dodge Viper, Chevrolet Corvette and Ford Mustang from the United States and Brabham-Honda, Mazda, Nissan and Toyota from Japan. <pre> RESULTS: 1.
