The team finished the season in 10th placing on the Team’s Championship Standings based on the results of the #4 and #9 cars.
Erebus Motorsport V8 has completed its debut season in the V8 Supercars Championship with all three Mercedes-Benz E63 AMGs completing a torturous NRMA Motoring and Services Sydney 500 around the Olympic Park precinct.
The journey which began only 14 months ago, included a massive effort to design and build the cars for the opening round in Adelaide in February. Developing the cars in competition has the team energised for 2014, which will again start in Adelaide in less than 90 days time.
Following on from a solid eighth placing yesterday, Tim Slade continued his great run in his final appearance in the Erebus Motorsport colours. He brought the NSW Rural Fire Service E63 AMG home in a hard fought 11th placing after starting 20th on the grid.
The result today edged Holdsworth into the top 20 in the Championship - the best placed of the Erebus Motorsport runners, aided by his stirring performance throughout the PIRTEK Enduro Cup earlier this year.
Maro Engel was another to suffer with the heat today. He was having intermittent issues with his helmet cooling device, forcing the team to remove the driver’s side window in his final stop. He showed determination to end his difficult season for the SP Tools team in 20th placing.
Overall, the team finished the season in 10th placing on the Team’s Championship Standings based on the results of the #4 and #9 cars.
From the start of the season, where reliability was a key requirement for the team, to the mid-part of the year where glimpses of promise were shown, through to the enduros where the true pace and ability of the team began to be realised.
QUOTEBOARD - RYAN MADDISON - EREBUS MOTORSPORT CEO:
“To complete the season with a clean run and be truly competitive on what is a very tough circuit is a credit to everyone on the team,” said CEO Ryan Maddison.
“When you consider how far we have come since racing in Adelaide in February, everyone on the team can feel very proud.
“Developing every aspect of our program in front of the public is not desirable, but it has seen us become a favourite of the fans and enabled them to really connect with our brand.
“2013 has been a build, development and reliability year for Erebus Motorsport V8.
“We have put these key pillars in place and now we can look forward to 2014 being about performance. It all starts in 10 weeks.”
