Ellery Eyes The Prize After Strong Performance At Sandown
Steve Ellery moved one step closer to improving his spot in the championship today when he pulled points from Garth Tander's lead and kept pace with his biggest threat Marcos Ambrose.
Ellery maintained his ninth position in the championship after finishing 11th. Ellery was as fast as any of the top 5 but lost track position after a stop/go penalty stole six spots from him.
While he was disappointed to be given the stop/go, Ellery focused on the narrowing gap between he and Tander's position in the championship and says he's hoping to reduce it still further tomorrow.
"We were right behind Ingall before the stop/go and he finished 4th. You can't complain too much though, as long as we hold position in both of tomorrow's races we will have reached our goals.
"I was a bit conservative into that first corner but that was a gamble I was prepared to take. It's always better to relinquish a few spots and come out unscathed.
"I had some great battles with Besnard and Jones. It got a bit rough out there on the last lap but I plan to make amends and get back that spot with some good hard racing out there tomorrow," Steve Ellery said.
His clean race maintains his perfect finishing record so far for the series. Ellery will start alongside Steve Johnson for the second race tomorrow, which starts at 11am.
