POINTS AND PACE ON ENCOURAGING DAY FOR WPS/WOW RACING
WPS/WOW Racing has had an encouraging day at Round 5 of the V8 Supercar Championship Series at Eastern Creek Raceway in Sydney, New South Wales today.
Jason Bargwanna scored two more points towards his championship campaign with 15th in Race One today in the #10 WPS Racing Falcon.
Bargwanna claimed the 15th and final points scoring position on the penultimate lap of the race by passing Dean Canto.
Max Wilson finished a solid 19th in the #8 WOW Racing Falcon after losing several positions with a slow launch at the start of the 31-lap event.
Both cars showed excellent pace in qualifying earlier in the day, continuing the pace shown at the team's recent test day.
Bargwanna and Wilson were 12th and 13th respectively in the session, Bargwanna finishing the first segment of qualifying with the fourth fastest time.
In the race Bargwanna worked his way into 10th position at the start but stalled during his pit stop as a result of pausing for another car in the lane, dropping him down the order.
Bargwanna's pace remained strong and he was able to recover to take the final points position, while Wilson, who was also slowed at his pit stop, was four positions further back.
Today's race was won by Mark Skaife ahead of Jamie Whincup, Rick Kelly and pole winner Todd Kelly.
WHAT THEY HAD TO SAY --
Jason Bargwanna -- #10 WPS Racing Falcon
"There is certainly a big difference between finishing 15th and 16th," said Bargwanna.
"The car maintained it's good pace from qualifying but we still have some work to do.
"The car is going well but we can probably work at getting it better over a race distance.
"The pit stop was a combination of things that all went wrong at once. It's unfortunate but these things happen so we look to tomorrow for a better finish.
"We had a car capable of making up positions over the last laps. Under the safety car we were able to cool the tyres a little and had the pace to get by Canto there on the second to last lap.
"Two points are certainly a lot better than none, so we will take it and look to tomorrow for improvement.
Max Wilson -- #8 WOW Racing Falcon
"My start to the race today made it very difficult to get back into a points scoring position," said Wilson.
"I just used a little too many revs and got wheel spin, which dropped me back several spots.
"From there we had to battle to get back forward and we were able to move past some cars and improve. A slow stop set us back a bit and it was not a race to remember, but we will do our best to get back up there tomorrow.
"It's a shame we had such a forgettable race today. The team has done a tremendous job since the last round to get the cars working well and in qualifying we really showed good pace.
"I think we can definitely show more tomorrow."
Craig Gore -- Team Owner
"Today was a mixed day for the team but on the whole it is good to see the pace of our cars really on the improve and Bargs scoring more points," said Gore.
"Qualifying showed what we are capable of and it's good that the pace from our last test day showed through today in the dry conditions.
"Both our cars lost spots for reasons other than their speed and Bargs and Max both came back through the field and passed cars, which gives us confidence for an even better showing tomorrow."
