STEVE RICHARDS QUALIFIES 5TH AT EASTERN CREEK

June 10, 2007 - Ford Performance Racing (FPR) V8 Supercar team driver Steve Richards has led the blue oval team's Eastern Creek challenge by qualifying 5th for today's first of three 31 lap races to be held in Sydney over the Queen's Birthday long weekend. Richards' FPR Falcon team mate Mark Winterbottom set the 11th fastest lap during today's highly competitive qualifying session, which was held in dry conditions.

The Castrol FPR Falcon driver found strong form during this morning's qualifying session after just managing to scrape through the first fifteen minute sector at the cut-off point of 20th, then displaying outstanding speed to grab the 3rd fastest lap during an exciting final minute of the second sector. In the third and final 15 minute dice for Pole position, the 34 year old driver's best lap time placed Richards 5th.

Orrcon Ford Credit FPR Falcon driver Winterbottom also made the top 20 at 19th early in the session, improving to 11th by the end of the second sector, but the 26 year old Sydney born driver only fractionally missed out on taking part in the final 15 minute top ten run for race one starting positions at 11th.

Pole position went to HRT driver Todd Kelly ahead of his team mate Mark Skaife and defending Champion Rick Kelly, ahead of Jamie Whincup and FPR Falcon driver Steve Richards.

Today's opening Eastern Creek V8 Supercar sprint race is scheduled to start at 1:40pm.
