Round One, Australian V8 Supercar Championship
Clipsal 500 - Adelaide Street Circuit March 15-17 2002.
Disappointing Qualifying Result In Adelaide
March 15 2002 - Cameron McConville has qualified a disappointing 33rd after a tough Clipsal 500 qualifying session at the Adelaide Street Circuit today. (Friday)
McConville struggled to match his pace set during the second practice session, with the team trying set up modifications that made the car difficult to drive on the fast and tricky former Grand Prix street circuit. The Lansvale Racing Team driver managed a best lap of 1:25.4089s with a very difficult handling car.
Cameron McConville - "The car was very unstable - we tried a set up change and unfortunately it went the complete other way. I was struggling not to lock brakes at most of the corners, which at this circuit makes it impossible to set a decent time. I'm obviously very disappointed and we now have to look towards making the car as fast as possible for tomorrow's first race from the back of the field."
A fast run from the back of the field would be nothing new for the Lansvale Racing Team driver, who at the second Australian Grand Prix support race charged from the back of the field to just outside the top ten in a mere handful of laps. Given tomorrow's gruelling 250km race and with significant improvements carried out overnight, the team is hopeful of a much more representative display of the Lansvale machine's speed during the two Clipsal 500 races.
Holden Racing Team driver Mark Skaife claimed Pole position with his fastest lap of 1:22.1275s from team mate Jason Bright (1:22.1829s).
