Fabian Coulthard got strong 5th place finishes.
Lockwood Racing's Fabian Coulthard was left pleased with his points haul after strong 5th place finishes in the first two 125 kilometre races at the Clipsal 500.
Coulthard was left disappointed after qualifying 10th and 16th for the two Saturday races but stayed out of trouble to finish both races strongly.
The first race was relatively uneventful for the team despite some issues with tyres locking under braking.
Fabian Coulthard Race one:
"It wasn't bad, we got a great start and moved forward but suffered from a bit of locking at the start.
We got past the first bit OK but after the pitstop I had a big lock up and from then on it was just a case of nursing it home to the end."
The second twilight race ended with a close dice to the finish with FPR's Mark Winterbottom and Chaz Mostert and also the setting sun to contend with, after the race started at 6.50pm local time.
Tucked up behind Winterbottom, Coulthard was vulnerable to attack from Mostert but held on to take another solid 5th and more points in a race won by Red Bull's Craig Lowndes.
Fabian Coulthard Race two:
"After yesterday obviously qualifying poorly, to get two fifth places means it's been a pretty good day. Race wise, it was interesting with the lowering sun. One lap you had sun in the eyes and the next it was behind a board, so that was pretty cool. If you live around here and you drive a car on Wakefield St at that time you know how bad the sun can be but we're all dealing with the same conditions. We've improved the car as the day's gone on but if we can get another step overnight, hopefully we can get on the podium tomorrow."
The final 250 kilometre race starts tomorrow at 15.15 ACST
