Tough Day For Bowe Despite Strong Speed At Winton

First corner dramas in both races caused a tough day at Winton for John Bowe and the Cat Racing V8 Supercar team.

Bowe made a strong start in the opening race but suffered bent steering at the first corner after Tony Longhurst struck Cameron McLean - causing a chain-reaction collision.

Despite the problem, Bowe pressed on strongly only to be spun by Garth Tander with four laps remaining.

The race was subsequently red-flagged as marshals retrieved stricken cars off the circuit.

Bowe lined up the repaired Falcon in 19th for the second race, only to again hit trouble at the first turn - this time spinning to avoid another spun car. After dropping to 32nd, Bowe began a comeback charge which eventually lifted him to 13th at the race end.

"I obviously disappointed, but the car showed good speed in the second race and I was able to fight hard to get past quite a few cars," Bowe said.

"There is still a lot of lunacy going on out there and it was just a pity we got caught up in it.

"The first race was very tough because the steering wheel was tilted over and the front suspension was toed-out quite badly."

Bowe's comeback charge in the second race earned him the second fastest lap of the day - a time which broke the old lap record early in the event.

The Briggs Motorsport squad will turn its attention to the V8 Supercar 1000 at Mount Panorama, Bathurst on October 4-7.

"I am really looking forward to Bathurst because despite the fact we had a rough day today, I believe we have a really strong package for Mount Panorama," Bowe said.

"Simon (Wills) did a great job with me at the Queensland 500 and I think our car should be very strong.

"Anything can happen at Bathurst and the race is very tough to win, but the whole team is really fired up to get a good result."
