John Bowe's chances of success in the Sunshine state were ruined on the opening lap of the day at Queensland Raceway today.

After being struck in the right rear wheel approaching the start-finish line to complete the first lap of the opening race, Bowe's Cat Falcon was turned sharp right across the traffic.

The car heavily tapped the inside tyre wall before Bowe was able to continue, despite losing the rear bumper.

The Tasmanian began a great fightback before contact with Cameron McConville sent the Cat car into the sand trap.

Just when you thought your luck was going bad - Bowe's car was then struck by Steve Reed after he was already stuck in the sand trap for five laps.

After frantic work by the Cat crew, Bowe made it back out onto the track for race two and began a great fightback.

He charged from position 31 on the grid to finish 15th and was again on the attack in the final race when he moved into the top ten.

"I wasn't real impressed to be pushed off the road when travelling in a straight line, particularly on the opening lap," Bowe said.

"The car was still pretty good after that, but then we end in the sand after Cameron (McConville) closed the door.

"I thought he had left a gap, and went to go through when he turned in at the last minute.

"I thought we had things pretty tough, but to finally be hit after I was left playing in the sand pit for five laps was the final straw."

Holden driver Craig Lowndes won the day with three wins from three starts ahead of team-mate Mark Skaife.

Bowe was pleased with the team's comeback on the day but disappointed to have to fight from the rear of the grid.

"The car was pretty strong throughout the day and we could have ended up with a good result had we not been biffed off the road," Bowe said.

"I am really starting to wonder when our luck is ever going to turn around.

"We didn't qualify as well as I would have liked and that was the reason we were back in the pack to start with.

"However, I would have rather started from 11th than 31st for the second race. I was really hoping for a better day at our home track." <pre> RACE ONE - 17 laps 1. - Lowndes (Holden) - 20:30.600 2. - Skaife (Holden) - 20:33.726 3. - Larkham (Ford) - 20:35.612 4. - Ingall (Holden) - 20:36.612 5. - Radisich (Ford) - 20:38.660 DNF - BOWE (CAT FORD) - 11 laps
