Cat Racing star John Bowe is out to build on his strong speed at Winton at the next round of the V8 Supercar Championship at Sydney's Oran Park Raceway this weekend.
Bowe was in contention for a podium position until the final race of the day at Winton until he was pushed off the road when passing Garth Tander.
While disappointed to finish the race in the mud, Bowe was encouraged by the improved pace of the Cat Racing Falcon.
"The end of the day was pretty annoying, but we showed our race pace is not too far off the mark," Bowe said.
"We were the fastest car of the teams which don't test at Winton and we were able to turn consistent lap times throughout the day.
"I am now confident we are starting to really turn our season around and everybody is working hard to ensure Oran Park is the next step on the ladder."
The Oran Park circuit in outer Sydney holds pleasant memories for Bowe it was the scene of his Australian Touring Car Championship clinching victories of 1995.
"We had a pretty dominant performance back in 1995 and it was great to win the championship here," Bowe said.
"Back then, they were pretty quick to handicap the Falcons at the end of the sprint race series.
"They have been a little slow in doing the same thing for the Holdens but it now looks like changes are on the horizon."
V8 Supercar organisers have agreed to a change which will result in the Ford Falcons being fitted with the Holden undertray for the next round of the Championship at Calder Park in Melbourne.
"It is a positive move and will be interesting to see what effect it has on the cars," Bowe said.
"This is the start of a plan to make both marques mechanically equal. I think this will be good for the category and it is really pleasing to see both Ford and Holden agreeing on the matter.
"Holden have had the upper hand for too long and I am looking forward to doing battle with them on an equal footing. In the interim we will still be giving it our best shot." <pre> ORAN PARK RECORD: 1995 Ford Falcon EF Grid: Pole Heat 1: 1st Heat 2: 1st Round: 1st
