Cat Racing's John Bowe has his sights set on tomorrow's top 15 shoot-out after qualifying seventh fastest for this weekend's inaugural GMC 400 at Canberra today.
On the new circuit surrounding the old and new Parliament House in the nation's capital, Bowe stopped the clocks at 1:45.035.
He now has a chance to further improve his qualifying position in a single-lap top-fifteen shootout tomorrow morning.
"The car was pretty good but we are losing a lot time with understeer in the tight sections of the circuit," Bowe said.
"At a lot of the tight chicanes, the cars just doesn't turn in as nicely as I would like.
"We are going to make some changes for tomorrow morning's warm-up and see if can improve the car for the shoot-out.
"I had a good run at the Adelaide shoot-out so hopefully things will fall our way again."
Fellow Ford driver Mark Larkham clocked the fastest time in qualifying ahead of Craig Lowndes.
Bowe and the Cat team are working hard on improving the car for the shoot-out with the tight Canberra circuit making passing difficult.
"It is great to be racing in the Nation's capital but this is certainly the tightest and narrowest circuit I have ever raced at," Bowe said.
"There are very few passing opportunities and the action on track it going to be pretty frantic.
"There are going to be a lot of bent racecars after the weekend, especially after the reverse grid race."
The V8 Supercar stars will contest a 25 lap race with a compulsory pit-stop tomorrow, followed by a 25 lap reverse grid event Sunday morning and 50 lapper with two pit stops in the afternoon.
"These races where there are bonus points on offer are very important to our championship chase," Bowe said.
"We have to make sure we push very hard, but one mistake could give you a very bent car. I just hope everybody uses their head." <pre> QUALIFYING 1. - Larkham (Ford) - 1:44.093 2. - Lowndes (Holden) - 1:44.454 3. - Radisich (Ford) - 1:44.382 4. - Longhurst (Ford) - 1:44.763 5. - Skaife (Holden) - 1:44.774 6. - Kelly (Holden) - 1:45.001 7. - BOWE (CAT FORD) - 1:45.035 8. - McLean (Ford) - 1:45.156 9. - Seton (Ford) - 1:45.205 10. - Tander (Holden) - 1:45.246 11. - Ellery (Ford) - 1:45.372 12. - Murphy (Holden) - 1:45.428 13. - Johnson (Ford) - 1:45.487 14. - Richards (Holden) - 1:45.611 15. - Perkins (Holden) - 1:45.620
