Canto signs for GRM

Garry Rogers Motorsport today announced the multi-year signing of Dean Canto to drive for the team in the 2006 V8 Supercar Championship Series.

Canto, who this year won his second HPDC V8 Supercar Development Series crown in addition to driving in two rounds of the main series for GRM, will join the Melbourne-based team for next year's series.

The 25-year-old from Sydney is thrilled to be back in his first full-time drive in the main V8 Supercar Series since 2003.

"Having a chance to drive in a couple of races this year with GRM was a great opportunity and being able to join them on a full-time basis for 2006 is the best news I've had in a while," said Canto.

"I was able to prove in the Development Series this year that I'm worthy of a seat in the main series - now we have to work hard to get some good results next year.

"The level of racing has gone up unbelievably in the time since I last drove in the championship as a full-time driver."

Team owner Garry Rogers was happy with what he saw of Canto in his two drives with the team at Indy and Symmons Plains to sign him for next year.

"He's clearly shown he's fast and skilful enough to be competitive," said Rogers.

"Dean is a hard-working young bloke who will fit in well with GRM. He showed plenty of maturity in his two drives with us this year and adapts well."

Rogers said that the other drive in the team is still not finalised for next year.

"The second seat in our team is still under review. There's a number of drivers under consideration and we're working through our options."

The team at the GRM workshop have already begun work and planning on their 2006 championship, which begins at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide in late March next year.
