McLean Tunes Up For Season's First Race
Cameron McLean expects overnight suspension adjustments on his V.I.P. Pet Foods Falcon will help him climb through the field in the first race of the Netspace V8 Supercar Showdown tomorrow at the Fosters Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.
Driving the recently-purchased Falcon for the first time today, McLean struggled to find front-end grip and finished qualifying in 29th spot.
"I'm not happy. Last year at the grand prix I qualified 15th and with a new car I was aiming for a similar or better result," Cameron said.
"Like everyone, we're on the new Dunlop control tyre and while it seems good we just couldn't find the right set-up to match it in the limited time available on track.
"The problem particularly cost me speed on the fast corners. In the slow corners you can throw the car around a bit but, of course, Albert Park is mostly a high-speed track.
"The Paragon Motorsport crew have made some fairly significant changes to try to eliminate the understeer and in tomorrow afternoon's 10-lapper I plan to go really hard to improve my starting position for race two. It's the first V8 Supercar race of the season and I'd like to have a good result to set the tone for the rest of the year.
"Apart from that, the new V.I.P. Pet Foods Falcon promises to be an excellent race car. It ran perfectly today and I'm more than happy with the horsepower available."
In addition to V.I.P. Pet Foods, the Paragon Motorsport Ford Falcon V8 Supercar is sponsored by All Power Steering, Eibach Springs, Freightliner Trucks, Jade Engineering, PPG Paints, Revolution Racegear, Screen Offset Printing, Snap-on Tools, Spandex, Street Smart Designs, Wurth and Cox Lawn Care Products.
