Caltex Havoline Racing's David Besnard has thrown his weight behind the Starlight Children Foundation's Star Day activities, which will take place around the country tomorrow.
Star Day is the major national fundraising campaign for the Starlight Foundation - a non-profit organisation dedicated to brightening the lives of seriously ill children between the ages of four and 18.
This year's Star Day campaign will run until May 17, with Star Day being held tomorrow.
During this period Australians are invited to purchase Starlight merchandise from Caltex outlets throughout the country.
Merchandise can also be purchased through the Star Day's other partners Optus World, Lend Lease Shopping Centres, Amcal, Darrell Lea, just Jeans, Lincraft, Sussan, Rebel Sport or in Dewsona WA.
There will also be volunteers, many of them Caltex staff, selling merchandise on the streets in most major cities tomorrow.
The volunteers will be wearing distinctive yellow tee-shirts with purple sleeves that include the Starlight and Caltex logos.
Shoppers at Brisbane's Carindale Shopping Centre will be in for an extra treat on Saturday with a replica of Besnard's Caltex Havoline Ford racecar on display from 9am and 5pm.
Caltex has been a major sponsor of the Starlight Foundation for three years and helps with many events during the year.
Caltex Havoline Racing made one wish come true when it hosted a child and his parents at the V8 Supercar 1000 at Bathurst last year.
The little boy and his parents were provided with accommodation, seats in the Caltex corporate box, a lap above the circuit in a helicopter and a "behind the scenes" look at the team.
"It is hard to think of a more worthwhile charity than the Starlight Foundation," said Besnard. "When you see how ill some of these children can be it really makes you realise how fortunate most of us are. "It would be great if everyone could dig into their pockets on Star Day to help raise the money needed make the wishes continue for so many young sick kids."
Besnard completed a test at the Queensland Raceway today and will compete in the fourth round of the V8 Supercar Series at Hidden Valley Raceway in Darwin on May 18-19.
