Bright keen to build momentum at Townsville

After showing just what the Team BOC Commodore is capable of in the previous round in Darwin, Jason Bright is now focused on clinching a strong result at the Castrol 500 in Townsville this weekend.

Bright was quick all weekend at the Top End and looked set for a top 5 result in the 200km Sunday race before a collision with Garth Tander and a pit lane penalty put paid to a good result.

"I'm confident we'll be competitive in Townsville," he said.

"If we can qualify better I think we're going to have pretty good race pace again."

Team BOC engineer Andrew Edwards says the team has no doubts about race speed but the focus is very much on consistent qualifying.

"I see areas where we can find some consistency and find that pace to get us back to being a consistent qualifier," he said.

"I'm confident we can do it. Darwin was the first step to that to some degree but you've got to do it for more than one round to prove that you've done it."

Bright enjoys the hybrid Townsville track, which uses public roads and a purpose built section.

"The track is great. It's got a little bit of everything. It's a really busy little track, you get that one rest down the main straight but the rest of it is just full on around the back. It's going to be more challenging this year with the extra 50 kays added on and this year we've only got the hard tyre and that will change the race quite a bit. It's going to be another challenge again," said Bright.

Like Darwin two weeks ago, Townsville embraces their V8 Supercar race and the support is not lost on Bright.

"I love going up there," he said.

"It's one of those events that's really big for the town - everyone gets behind it. It's a great atmosphere. It's always a lot of fun racing at those events because the atmosphere at the circuit is great as well."

For Bright and Team BOC, the aim is to achieve consistent top 5 results and the pace of the team in Darwin proves that this is a realistic goal.

"It's definitely possible to have more good results but it's really hard to get. There are a lot of things across a race weekend that stop that from happening and Darwin was disappointing because we had the pace to finish up there but didn't do it. As long as we've got the pace to do it we just have to make sure the strategy and everything else falls into place so we can do it."

Round 7 of the V8 Supercar Championship starts on Friday with three practice sessions followed by two 125km races on Saturday and a 250km race on Sunday.
