A dramatic qualifying session at Mount Panorama today has thrown up mixed fortunes for TeamVodafone with Craig Lowndes recording the fourth fastest time in his #888 Falcon while Irishman Richard Lyons was towed back to the pits after hitting the wall at Turn 4.

Both cars ran seamlessly inside the top ten during the morning practice sessions but the change in track conditions during qualifying affected the balance on Car #88.

With the final top ten qualifying positions to be decided in a shootout tomorrow TeamVodafone utilized the two, half hour qualifying sessions to simulate shootout runs with Car #888.

After a number of small tweaks to the car throughout qualifying Lowndes recorded his fastest lap of 2.07.6214 in the last minute of the session while Lyons and Simonsen had to settle for 16th and will now start Sunday's 1000 kilometre race from the eighth row of the grid.
